Muscat – The Oman Cancer Association will hold a charity golf tournament on October 3 to raise funds for cancer patients and their families while promoting awareness of prevention and early detection.

The event, announced on Monday, will be staged at the LA VIE Country Club golf course at Tivoli LA VIE Muscat Hotel & Residences as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities.

Golfers, companies, sponsors and members of the public will be invited to take part, with proceeds going towards the association’s services and support programmes.

Dr Waheed bin Ali Al Kharousi, Chairman of Oman Cancer Association, said the tournament combines sport with community action and offers companies and individuals an opportunity to contribute through participation, sponsorship and donations.

He said funds raised would help sustain services including Dar Al Hanan, which provides accommodation and support for cancer patients travelling from other governorates to Muscat for treatment, as well as their companions.

The tournament was initiated by Omani national golf team player Muheeb bin Jameel Al Kathiri, who said the idea grew from a personal experience with cancer in his family.

“Losing a relative to cancer made me understand more deeply the importance of the support provided to patients and their families,” Al Kathiri said.

He added that the tournament would allow him to use his passion for golf to support the community.

The initiative is being organised with partners including LA VIE, Tivoli Hotel and the Oman Golf Association.
