Muscat – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has stepped up efforts to position Oman as a leading destination for sports and adventure tourism through promotional campaigns at two of Europe’s major Ironman 70.3 events in the United Kingdom and Spain.

The ministry took part in the Ironman 70.3 Swansea in Wales and the Ironman 70.3 Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain, using the international competitions to showcase Oman’s tourism attractions and promote the sultanate’s growing calendar of endurance sporting events.

Officials said the participation forms part of the ministry’s strategy to strengthen Oman’s presence in key international tourism markets while attracting more sports enthusiasts and adventure travellers to the country.

The Swansea race drew 2,651 athletes representing 216 triathlon clubs from around the world, while the event in Vitoria-Gasteiz attracted 1,237 competitors from 146 international sports clubs. Nearly 48% of participants in the Spanish race were competing in an Ironman event for the first time, offering the ministry access to a new audience of potential visitors.

During both events, the ministry operated a four-day promotional pavilion highlighting Oman’s diverse tourism experiences, natural landscapes and adventure offerings. The pavilion also promoted the Ironman races scheduled to be hosted in Oman in 2026, encouraging international athletes to compete while exploring the country’s cultural and natural attractions.

The ministry said that international sporting events provide valuable exposure for Oman by showcasing its varied landscapes, modern tourism infrastructure, world-class hotels and resorts, and renowned Omani hospitality.
