Muscat – A total of 2,200 houses have been handed over to citizens affected by the Batinah Coastal Road project till date, according to an official of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning.

In the governorates of North and South Batinah, the ministry has completed handing over 498 houses in the wilayat of Suwaiq, 350 in Khabourah, 201 in Shinas, 300 in Sohar, 250 in Musannah, 200 in Barka, and 400 in Saham.

“Compensation for houses affected by the Batinah Coastal Road project was of two types, based on the choice of house owners. The compensation was cash in addition to land or compensation in kind with alternative housing,” a ministry official informed.

The ministry has also completed compensation for farmland with alternative plots in North Batinah.

Ninety-four per cent of farmers affected by the coastal road in Suwaiq, 82 per cent in Sohar, 93 per cent in Saham, 53 per cent in Shinas, 91 per cent in Khabourah, and 62 per cent in Liwa have been handed over alternative farmland.

In the wilayats of Musannah and Barka in South Batinah, the official added, all farmers affected by the road project have been handed over alternative farmland.

“Removal of construction waste of the demolished housing units affected by the project is currently in process,” the ministry official said.
