26 Feb 2022 By

Muscat – Over 500 Mays i E1 electric cars have been booked so far, according to Haider bin Adnan al Zaabi, co-founder of Mays Motors.

On February 20, Mays Motors launched the first Omani electric car, as part of its ambitions to become a significant player in the e-vehicle sector in the region.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Zaabi said, “Mays Motors is funded by Oman Technology Fund. Bookings for the first 100 vehicles were already made before the launch.

“After the launch, we received a lot of inquiries and about 400 cars were booked in the next two days.”

About investments made in Mays Motors, he said, “The company’s initial investments have reached about RO5mn. There are many investors who have expressed interest. We want to build a bigger factory after obtaining appropriate investments. We have been invited to Dubai to participate in the STEP International Conference, one of the largest conferences related to tech companies and investments in the world.”

Zaabi informed that Mays Motors has started work in a small factory in Barka. “We will start production at the end of 2023 and complete our first order. We expect to sell our electric cars globally.”

Zaabi is also hopeful of spurring job opportunities as the company increases production. “We will create more job opportunities for Omanis. We are working with some private companies and Shell to set up recharge points in petrol stations across Oman to cater to demand.”

Mays i E1 has a carbon fibre body, a range of 500km on a single charge and can accelerate zero to 100km/hr in less than four seconds.
