Muscat – Royal Oman Police (ROP) have issued a stern reminder to motorists regarding the life-threatening risks and legal consequences of attempting to cross flooded valleys. This warning follows recent incidents where drivers were filmed deliberately navigating high-water levels in wadis, a practice that endangers not only the vehicle occupants but also the emergency teams tasked with potential rescues.

According to Article 49 of the Traffic Law, any driver who intentionally crosses a wadi in a manner that puts their life or the lives of others at risk faces significant judicial action. The law mandates a prison sentence of up to three months for those found in violation. Additionally, offenders may be subject to a fine not exceeding RO500.

The Directorate of Relations and Security Information emphasizes that these measures are in place to ensure public safety during periods of heavy rainfall. Authorities urge all citizens and residents to adhere to safety protocols, avoid low-lying areas, and refrain from risking their lives for the sake of a crossing, as the force of the water can easily overwhelm even the most robust four-wheel-drive vehicles.
