Muscat – Oman Airports has announced the launch of a new international charter operated by Italian carrier Neos Air, connecting Salalah Airport to Rome via Milan with one flight per week.
The new service was welcomed by Oman Airports on its official X platform, describing it as an important step in enhancing air connectivity between the Sultanate of Oman and Europe. ‘Oman Airports welcomes the new direct international route from Italian airline Neos, connecting Salalah Airport to Rome via Milan, with one flight per week. We wish them continued success and safe journeys,’ the post read.
The route is expected to strengthen Salalah’s appeal as a year-round tourist destination and support growing travel demand between Oman and Europe. It also complements the government’s broader strategy to expand air connectivity and stimulate tourism across the governorates.
According to the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, charter flights to Oman recorded a 26% rise during the 2024–25 tourism season, with passenger numbers reaching 93,000. The ministry reported that visitors arriving on these flights generated around US$80mn in returns from accommodation, transport and sightseeing activities, excluding airport-related revenues.
A total of 588 charter flights operated during the season, up from 466 in 2023–24, reflecting stronger connectivity and demand. Eastern and Central Europe remained key source markets, with Poland leading at 31,800 passengers, followed by the Czech Republic (19,126), Italy (14,497), Slovakia (10,800) and Hungary (8,100).
Officials noted that the increase in routes, including new services from Belarus and Uzbekistan, reflects the expanding interest in Oman as a leisure destination. Efforts are also underway to attract visitors from Spain and Russia as part of ongoing efforts to diversify source markets and strengthen tourism inflows.
