Muscat – Oman raised its medal tally to 22 at the fourth GCC Games in Doha, securing seven gold, four silver and 11 bronze medals as competition continues until May 22.

Athletics accounted for eight medals, including four gold, two silver and two bronze.

Mazoon bint Khalfan Al Alawi opened the gold count in the women’s long jump. Fatik bin Abdul Ghafour Beit Jaaboub followed with victory in the men’s high jump. Ali bin Anwar Al Balushi won the 100m gold, while Mulham bin Darwish Al Balushi took silver in the same race.

Hanaa Al Qassimi claimed bronze in the women’s 400m, while Ahmed Al Abdulsalam secured bronze in the men’s 400m. Oman also won gold in the men’s 4x100m relay and silver in the women’s 4x100m relay.

In fencing, Oman collected five medals, including two gold and three bronze. Israa bint Saif Al Siyabi secured gold in the foil event, marking her second gold in the tournament. Ahmed bin Anwar Kaskas and Al Harith bin Salem Al Harthi added bronze medals in the épée.

Shooting delivered two silver and two bronze medals. Salim Al Naabi finished second in the men’s 10m rifle, while Oman also took silver in the mixed 10m rifle event.

Taekwondo contributed five medals, including one gold and four bronze.

Ali Al Balushi said after his 100m win, “The race was very tough, and I am pleased to win gold for Oman and the fans.”

Beit Jaaboub said winning the high jump gold was significant given the level of competition. “Standing on the podium in the presence of Olympic champion Mutaz Barshim gave me extra motivation. This medal is an incentive ahead of the Asian Games in Japan,” he said.
