Muscat – Engineering students in Oman have been invited to participate in a design competition to develop a landmark 10,000-tree park in Duqm, aimed at creating a sustainable recreational and tourism destination for families, children and visitors.

Organised under the 10,000 Trees Initiative, the competition seeks innovative design concepts that combine environmental sustainability, landscaping and community-oriented spaces within a 400,000sqm site in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.

The initiative is being organised by the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) in cooperation with Tawteer, with support from the Ministry of Education and Duqm Refinery.

According to the competition announcement, the project is intended to transform the site into a green destination that supports families and provides recreational and tourism facilities for children and visitors. Participants are expected to develop designs that respond to the local environment while incorporating sustainable solutions and attractive public spaces.

The competition is open to engineering students, providing them with an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge to a major real-world landscape and urban development project in one of Oman’s key economic zones.

The planned park is expected to incorporate extensive tree planting alongside landscaped areas and facilities designed to encourage outdoor activities and family recreation. The concept also supports wider efforts to increase green spaces and promote sustainable development in Oman.

Registration for the competition is open till September 10.
