Salalah – The Environment Authority (EA) has intensified its field operations across Dhofar as part of the Environment Protectors initiative, aimed at preserving the governorate’s unique natural landscapes and promoting environmentally responsible behaviour during Dhofar Khareef 2026.

Implemented in cooperation with Dhofar Municipality and  Royal Oman Police, the initiative focuses on protecting green spaces, ensuring public safety and encouraging visitors to respect the area’s fragile ecosystems during one of Oman’s busiest tourism seasons.

According to the latest statistics released by EA on July 23, field teams removed 612 vehicles from protected green areas where driving and parking are prohibited to prevent damage to vegetation and soil.

The teams also responded to 48 environmental reports received from the public, demonstrating the importance of community participation in safeguarding Dhofar’s natural environment.

Enforcement efforts led to the closure of 33 locations found to be violating environmental regulations, while authorities dealt with ten abandoned vehicles that posed environmental and safety concerns.

Waste management is also a priority during the campaign. Inspection teams received 27 reports concerning overflowing waste bins and coordinated with the relevant authorities to help maintain cleanliness at tourist sites and public areas.

As part of the awareness effort, the initiative recorded four media appearances to educate residents and visitors about environmentally responsible practices, including proper waste disposal, protecting natural vegetation and complying with regulations designed to preserve Dhofar’s distinctive landscape.

The authority said the initiative reflects its commitment to conserving Oman’s natural heritage while ensuring that visitors can enjoy the khareef season responsibly. It stressed that protecting the governorate’s ecosystems requires the combined efforts of government agencies, local communities and tourists.

It urged visitors to follow environmental guidelines, avoid driving on green plains, dispose of waste responsibly and report environmental violations through the designated communication channels.

The Environment Protectors initiative continues throughout khareef, reinforcing efforts to preserve Dhofar’s scenic beauty and ensure a safe, clean and sustainable experience for all visitors.
