H M Sultan Haitham, Kagame discuss stronger partnership

Salalah – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik held a meeting with President Paul Kagame of the Republic of Rwanda at Al Maamourah Palace on Tuesday morning.

During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed the growing ties between their countries and their shared commitment to further strengthening cooperation across economic and investment sectors, in the interest of their peoples.

A joint statement issued on the occasion of the official visit of President Kagame said the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand areas of cooperation.

According to the statement, Oman and Rwanda underscored the importance of further strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing coordination across areas of investment, transport, energy, mining, tourism, logistics, and communications, and in the fields of banking and finance, encouraging partnerships between the public and private sectors, and strengthening trade cooperation in a manner that contributes to increasing the volume of trade between the two countries.

‘Among the key outcomes of the visit, the two sides agreed to establish resident embassies in both countries, create a Joint Committee and a Joint Business Council, and implement a technical cooperation programme, thereby strengthening diplomatic presence and establishing institutional mechanisms to advance and follow up on cooperation, while supporting further expansion of the partnership between the two countries,’ it stated.

His Majesty the Sultan and President Kagame praised the growth of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the fields of transport, communications and information technology.

The visit witnessed the signing of an agreement on mutual visa exemption for holders of official passports, an agreement on the removal of double taxation, and several memoranda of understanding in the fields of political consultations, labour, logistics and inland and dry ports development, agriculture, investment promotion and strategic partnership.

The two leaders exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, reaffirming their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at achieving security and stability and resolving disputes through peaceful means, in accordance with the principles of international law.

President Kagame praised the role of Oman in supporting regional dialogue and peace, while His Majesty the Sultan expressed his appreciation for Rwanda for its role in achieving stability, and seeking to promote dialogue and peaceful solutions in its region.

At the conclusion of the visit, the President Kagame expressed his appreciation for the warm hospitality and generous reception extended to him and his delegation, and extended an invitation to His Majesty the Sultan to visit Rwanda.
