Muscat – Oman Lawyers Association (OLA) is preparing its annual legal visit to Germany from September 11 to 18, with the participation of 25 lawyers representing different levels of litigation in Oman. The initiative is part of the association’s efforts to promote professional engagement and benefit from international judicial and legal experiences.

The visit reflects the association’s focus on investing in national legal knowledge and expertise and moving beyond the traditional concept of overseas visits through an integrated professional and knowledge-based programme.

The programme aims to enhance the capabilities of Omani lawyers and broaden their understanding of institutional regulation, dispute resolution mechanisms, and judicial and professional practices in one of Europe’s leading legal systems.

Dr Hamad bin Hamdan Al Rubai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OLA, said Germany was selected this year because of its well-established legal and judicial system and long-standing institutions, whose expertise and practices could provide valuable insights.

Al Rubai said direct engagement with German legal and judicial institutions and exposure to their working methods would contribute significantly to enriching participants’ professional experience and broadening their legal perspectives.

He stressed that the association is keen to ensure that such visits deliver genuine professional and knowledge-based value that can positively contribute to the quality of legal practice in Oman.

Khalifa bin Marhoon Al Rahbi, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of OLA, said the delegation would use the German capital Berlin as a base for a series of intensive professional meetings and visits to relevant legal and judicial institutions.

Al Rahbi said the German experience represents an important model in legal and institutional organisation and the management of the legal profession. He added that the programme had been carefully designed to give participants first-hand exposure to professional practices, facilitate the exchange of expertise and generate ideas and experiences that could be discussed and considered for adaptation in Oman.

Such initiatives, he said, are not limited to learning about comparative legal systems but also help build professional bridges with international legal institutions, while boosting the presence of Omani lawyers and their engagement with counterparts abroad.

The association vice-chairman expressed his sincere appreciation to the Embassy of Oman in Germany for its significant efforts and effective coordination in preparing for the visit and arranging the programme of professional meetings and visits.

He also praised the cooperation of the ambassador and embassy staff and the facilities they provided, which contributed to the successful preparations for the visit.

Al Rahbi said the support extended by Omani embassies to national professional delegations reflects their important role in building bridges of communication and cooperation with institutions in friendly countries and enhancing the international presence of Omani professionals and institutions.

The visit is part of a series of professional initiatives and programmes organised annually by the association to develop the capabilities of its members, expand their knowledge and connect them with international legal and judicial experiences.

The visit also seeks to help Omani lawyers keep pace with modern developments and contribute to the continued advancement of legal practice in the sultanate.
