Liwa – Construction work on the development of the entrance to the wilayat of Liwa in North Batinah has reached 50% completion, as part of efforts to enhance infrastructure and improve the aesthetic appeal of the wilayat’s centre.

Sheikh Hilal bin Sultan Al Kalbani, Wali of Liwa, said the project is among the key development initiatives in the wilayat and is expected to contribute to strengthening infrastructure and supporting tourism activity.

He explained that the project includes widening roads and reorganising intersections to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, in addition to creating new green spaces and small parks that will provide recreational areas for residents.

Al Kalbani noted that the project extends for 4km and is being implemented at an estimated cost of RO2.1mn.

He added that several major works have already been completed, including the construction of culverts and road paving, while work on the remaining components continues at varying stages. Efforts are also under way to accelerate implementation to compensate for any delays.

The project further includes the installation of modern street lighting, pedestrian walkways and bicycle paths to enhance safety and encourage active mobility. It also involves addressing rainwater accumulation along the stretch from Liwa roundabout to Al Zahia tunnel, alongside landscaping works and the installation of seating areas along the road.
