Muscat – The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Muscat has issued an important official statement addressing the Egyptian community in Oman.
The embassy noted that a large number of Egyptian citizens have recently fallen victim to fraud and scams perpetrated by certain individuals and travel companies. These fraudulent actors promise to bring citizens to Oman on tourist visas in exchange for financial payments under the false pretext of securing employment or job opportunities.
The embassy highlighted that Omani authorities have recently introduced crucial new regulations regarding visas. Under these updated rules, converting tourist visas into work permits has been officially suspended, meaning individuals must exit the country and re-enter legally with a proper work contract. Furthermore, financial penalties are now imposed on those who overstay their tourist visas, with fines reaching up to RO 500/per day.
To safeguard the security and safety of citizens, the embassy strongly advises all travellers to exercise extreme caution to avoid falling prey to illegal recruitment schemes. Additionally, travellers entering Oman on tourist visas are reminded to ensure they possess confirmed return flight tickets, confirmed hotel bookings or accommodation arrangements, and sufficient financial funds to cover their entire stay until their scheduled departure date.
