Muscat – Oman’s honey production has recorded strong growth over the past three years, reflecting the continued expansion of the country’s beekeeping sector and growing investment in apiculture.

According to official data, domestic honey production increased from 623,313kg in 2023 to 765,054kg in 2024, before reaching 934,043kg in 2025 — an overall increase of nearly 50% cent over the three-year period.

The North Sharqiyah governorate emerged as the country’s leading honey-producing region in 2025, with 248,547kg, followed by Dakhliyah with 176,428kg, South Sharqiyah with 158,097kg, and North Batinah with 128,120kg.

Other major producing governorates included Dhahirah, which recorded 97,818kg, and Dhofar with 64,216kg. 

The production sector comprised 47 enterprises engaged in beekeeping and the production of honey and beeswax, in addition to two facilities producing black honey (molasses) and sugar honey.

Data also showed that the country’s research and production infrastructure remained stable during the 2023–2025 period. Oman maintained 12 beekeeping production units and two specialised research units, supporting the development of the sector through research and technical services.

Oman imported refined natural honey worth RO2.13mn during the reporting period.

China was the largest supplier, accounting for imports valued at RO541,881, followed by India (RO417,333), Saudi Arabia (RO406,940), Australia (RO234,102) and the United Arab Emirates (RO229,355).

Imports of natural honey containing wax or wax pieces amounted to RO42,941, with Turkey emerging as the leading supplier at RO19,657, followed by Australia and the UAE.

Meanwhile, imports of wooden beehives totalled RO15,629, with Egypt supplying beehives worth RO9,809, followed by the United Arab Emirates at RO5,793.

On the export side, Oman exported refined natural honey valued at RO648,274. Lebanon was the largest export market, importing Omani honey worth RO246,272, followed by Qatar (RO179,000), Jordan (RO118,018), Kuwait (RO55,247) and the UAE (RO36,406).

Exports of natural honey containing wax or wax pieces were valued at RO21,050, with the UAE and Qatar among the main destination markets.
