Muscat – Despite soaring temperatures during the Eid Al Adha holiday, thousands of people across Oman turned out to attend cultural, heritage and entertainment events organised in several governorates, highlighting the enduring appeal of community celebrations and traditional customs.

Public squares, parks and heritage sites hosted a wide range of activities that brought together families, children and visitors in a festive atmosphere, combining entertainment with the preservation of Omani cultural traditions.

In North Batinah, residents of Liwa marked Eid through social and cultural programmes centred on the traditional ‘Eid Coffee’ gathering, a long-established custom held on the second and third days of Eid. The event serves as a platform for social interaction and community engagement while helping preserve local traditions.

Traditional Omani art forms, including Razha and Al Azi performances, attracted strong participation from residents and visitors. Organisers said the annual gathering rotates among neighbourhoods in the wilayat of Liwa to encourage wider community involvement and strengthen social ties.

In South Batinah, the village of Afi in Wadi Al Maawil hosted the ‘Layali Al Fans’ heritage and entertainment festival. The event featured folk performances, workshops, traditional crafts, calligraphy displays and activities for children, alongside stalls run by small businesses and artisan families.

At the Oman Across Ages Museum in Dakhliyah, the ‘Joy of Generations’ event offered cultural and family-focused programmes, including folk performances, storytelling sessions and children’s activities. Museum officials said the initiative aims to connect younger generations with Oman’s cultural heritage while creating a festive Eid experience.

North Sharqiyah also witnessed strong public participation as Mudhaibi hosted Eid celebrations featuring Razha performances, traditional games and competitions for children. Community organisations joined local authorities in organising activities designed to promote social interaction and family engagement.

In Muscat governorate, Seeb’s three-day ‘Al Ayoud Festival’ attracted large crowds with a programme that included traditional music, poetry recitals, children’s competitions, horse-riding activities and exhibitions showcasing products from productive families and small and medium enterprises.

In Dhofar, the Fourth Family Entertainment Forum in Sadah brought together residents for a series of cultural, recreational and sporting activities. The programme featured handicraft exhibitions, traditional food stalls, entertainment games, chess tournaments and poetry and music evenings celebrating the region’s cultural heritage.

The celebrations across the sultanate reflected a continued commitment to preserving cultural traditions while providing recreational opportunities for families during one of the country’s most important religious holidays. They also underscored the values of social cohesion, community participation and cultural pride that remain central to Omani society.
