Suhar – The Environment Authority in North Batinah has launched the first phase of its ‘Plastic-Free Workplace’ initiative in collaboration with the Governor’s Office, marking a step towards promoting sustainable practices across government institutions.

The initiative targets more than 500 employees across five government entities, aiming to reduce reliance on plastic and embed a culture of responsible consumption within the workplace.

The project focuses on raising awareness and encouraging practical behavioral change through a series of training workshops, awareness campaigns, and the introduction of internal policies designed to limit the use of single-use plastics. Employees are being encouraged to adopt environmentally friendly alternatives and rethink everyday consumption habits in line with broader sustainability goals.

Officials said the initiative reflects ongoing national efforts to curb plastic waste and mitigate its environmental and public health impacts. By fostering a shift towards more sustainable practices, the programme seeks to contribute to long-term environmental protection while enhancing institutional responsibility.

The authority emphasised that the initiative serves as a model of effective collaboration between government entities in advancing environmental priorities. Plans are already in place to expand the programme in subsequent phases to include additional institutions and wider community segments, ensuring a broader and more lasting impact.

The Plastic-Free Workplace initiative aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, particularly in the area of environmental sustainability, as it aims to build a more environmentally conscious society committed to preserving natural resources for future generations.
