Muscat – As preparations gather pace for Khareef Dhofar 2026, Dhofar Municipality has launched a registration drive targeting families involved in the cottage industry, offering them an opportunity to participate in the sultanate’s most anticipated annual tourism event.

The initiative, which opens doors for families to obtain temporary licences for small-scale commercial activities, is part of the municipality’s broader strategy to boost community participation and stimulate local economic activity during khareef. Known for its cool climate and lush landscapes, Dhofar attracts thousands of visitors each year, creating a vibrant marketplace for homegrown products and traditional crafts.

According to the municipality, the registration is open free of charge and covers several wilayats, including Salalah, Taqah, Mirbat, Sadah and Rakhyut. In Salalah, activities will be centred at the popular Souq Al Luban, a key hub for visitors seeking authentic Omani goods.

Officials said the move aims to empower artisan families by providing them with a structured platform to showcase and sell their products, ranging from handicrafts and textiles to traditional foods. “This initiative reflects ongoing efforts to support small household enterprises and enhance their contribution to the local economy, particularly during peak tourism periods,” a municipal official noted.

With final preparations under way for Khareef Dhofar 2026, authorities are encouraging eligible families to take advantage of the opportunity and play an active role in enriching the visitor experience, while also benefiting from the seasonal economic upswing.

Registration is open till May 7, with authorities urging interested families to apply early given the limited timeframe. Applications can be submitted online via Dhofar Municipality’s official website.
