Ibri – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, in cooperation with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, will present 30 investment opportunities in Dhahirah governorate through the Tatweer digital platform in 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen food security and achieve greater self-sufficiency.

Ahmed bin Rashid Al Abri, Director of the Agricultural Development Department at the Directorate General of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in Dhahirah, said the governorate currently hosts more than 50 agricultural investment projects covering around 9,000 acres, with total investment exceeding RO50 million.

He said the projects span the agricultural, livestock and water resources sectors, in addition to fish markets, and that investments are becoming increasingly diversified to promote the sustainable use of natural resources.

Projects include the cultivation of field crops — particularly wheat — alongside the expansion of fruit tree farming covering dates, figs and grapes. Other initiatives include the establishment of greenhouses and the cultivation of garlic and onions, aimed at diversifying agricultural output and reducing reliance on imports.

In the livestock sector, projects range from animal breeding and propagation to red meat production from local breeds, calf fattening and modern dairy systems. In the water resources sector, opportunities include projects to utilise silt from the Wadi Al Kabir and Wadi Al Salif dams, as well as the establishment and operation of water bottling and purification plants in accordance with approved health standards.

Al Abri also revealed plans to allocate land for waqf endowments, where irrigation revenues would fund the maintenance of aflaj irrigation systems. Food processing opportunities are additionally being developed in cooperation with the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn).

He said the projects have already contributed to strengthening Oman’s national food security index by increasing the supply of locally produced goods to domestic and international markets.

Shaikha Al Balushi, agricultural land specialist at the Agricultural Development Department in Dhahirah, said the Tatweer platform provides investors with detailed data on available land — including location, area, requirements and necessary documentation — along with direct communication channels for follow-up and enquiries. The platform also includes a ‘Propose Your Project’ service supporting entrepreneurial ideas and the expansion of existing businesses.

Sheikha said the initiative reflects the ministry’s commitment to digital transformation and improved service efficiency in line with Oman Vision 2040. The ministry aims to present 30 investment opportunities in Dhahirah this year as part of its broader strategy to boost self-sufficiency and localise value within the national economy.
