Muscat – Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) has announced the start of the lobster fishing season in Oman, running from October 1 to November 30, 2025.
It stressed the need for strict compliance with the designated lobster fishing period and regulations, highlighting that adherence is crucial to ensuring the sustainability of marine resources.
The ministry reiterated that only authorised lobster cages may be used during the season. This measure is part of wider efforts to safeguard Oman’s marine biodiversity and protect vital fishery resources for future generations.
An official from MAFWR said, “Fishermen use cages with the capacity to catch between 20 and 40 lobsters. In Oman, lobsters are mainly caught in the wilayats overlooking the Arabian Sea, particularly in the governorates of Dhofar, Al Wusta and South Sharqiyah. These areas are rich in fish stocks due to the unique biodiversity of the Arabian Sea.”
In a statement, the ministry expressed appreciation to fishermen and transporters for their cooperation during the current ban on shark fishing and trade.
The official urged fishermen to comply with the specified fishing period and use only authorised traps to help preserve this national wealth and ensure the sustainability of lobster stocks
