Eric Stonestreet, best known for his comedic role in Modern Family, is set to take on a much darker character in Dexter: Resurrection. The actor will portray Al, a Kansas City native who falls under suspicion of being a serial killer.
Stonestreet, widely recognised for his portrayal of the jester-like Cameron Tucker in Modern Family, also famously played his alter ego, Fizbo the Clown. With this dramatic shift to a sinister role, the makers of Dexter: Resurrection have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to break the fourth wall and merge elements of Fizbo’s eccentricity with Stonestreet’s new, menacing character.
The upcoming series, which continues the story of Dexter, will see Stonestreet appear in four episodes. He joins a star-studded cast that includes Neil Patrick Harris and Krysten Ritter, both rumoured to play serial killers, adding further intrigue to the highly anticipated show.
Confirming the news on Instagram, Stonestreet shared his excitement, writing, “I too have some free agency news. Very excited to work with this outstanding group of people.”
Set to premiere this summer, Dexter: Resurrection will bring back Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, the forensic blood spatter analyst who leads a double life as a vigilante serial killer. Other cast members include Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Emilia Suárez, and returning Dexter alumni Jennifer Carpenter, David Zayas, James Remar, and Jack Alcott.
The original Dexter series, which aired from 2006 to 2013, became a cultural phenomenon, winning multiple awards, including four Emmys, two Golden Globes, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. With a compelling cast and a fresh twist on the story, Dexter: Resurrection is set to captivate audiences once again.
