5 Jun 2024 Bids invited for development of Musannah fishing port

Muscat – Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) is inviting bids for the development of a fishing port in Musannah, South Batinah, to support local fishermen and consolidate the fisheries sector.

An official at MAFWR stated, “The ministry has floated a tender to establish, manage, operate and maintain projects within Musannah fishing port.”

He further informed that the tender – facilitated through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning’s Tatweer platform – is open to companies and investment institutions with expertise in managing, operating and maintaining investment projects.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the port’s location, the official emphasised its potential for growth and development across multiple sectors.

MAFWR has earmarked approximately 32,828sqm of land for various projects, including those in the fisheries sector, as well as services and investments encompassing commercial and tourism ventures. In its commitment to enhancing facilities and services for the fisheries sector and other stakeholders, MAFWR has allocated land for investment for up to 25 years.

Musannah fishing port also aims to generate employment opportunities for citizens, stimulate economic activity in the governorate and shore up local revenues. “Ancillary economic sectors such as hotels, restaurants and tourism services are expected to benefit from the fishing port.”

The official underscored the project’s objective of fostering robust partnerships with the private sector to achieve sustainable development goals, fortify the local economy, and create avenues for success and prosperity in the sector.

The deadline for submitting bids is June 16, 2024.
