Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has granted several licences for app-based taxi services to be operated from commercial centres, hotels and Sultan Qaboos Port.
For hotels, the approved apps include Marhaba and Oman Taxi, while commercial centres will see taxis operated by Hala, Oman Taxi, Marhaba, Otaxi and Tasleem. Sultan Qaboos Port will be serviced by Marhaba taxis.
This is the second phase of MTCIT’s initiative to regulate taxi services in Oman. On October 1, the ministry approved Otaxi and Oman Taxi applications to operate from Muscat International Airport.
MTCIT has advised taxis operating from hotels, commercial centres and Sultan Qaboos Port to register with the approved apps by November 1, 2023. ‘Only taxis registered with these apps will serve passengers in these areas.’
Phase 3 will begin on January 1, 2024 targeting taxis operating in public places.
The Aber app is a single window that includes all licensed taxis in Oman, offering easy access and registration on one platform.
