Muscat – Ahead of Eid Al Adha, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) has intensified efforts to monitor the availability of agricultural produce in central markets across the sultanate to ensure stable supplies and meet rising consumer demand during the festive season.

The ministry confirmed that local markets continue to witness strong availability of various agricultural products, including leafy and fruit vegetables, root crops and a wide range of fresh fruits. It said the steady flow of produce reflects the stability of supply chains and the readiness of markets to cater to shoppers in the lead-up to Eid.

According to the ministry, statistics show that the Silal Fruit and Vegetable Central Market received more than 20,000 tonnes of fruits and vegetables between May 1 and May 20, highlighting the market’s preparedness to support food security and maintain uninterrupted supplies during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year.

The ministry noted that demand for fresh produce usually increases ahead of Eid as families prepare traditional meals and social gatherings. In response, authorities are continuing intensive field inspections and monitoring operations at central markets to ensure smooth distribution and adequate stock levels.

Officials said the ongoing follow-up measures are aimed at maintaining market stability, preventing shortages and ensuring the availability of high-quality food products for consumers across the country.

The ministry added that its efforts form part of a wider strategy to strengthen food security, support supply chain efficiency and enhance the resilience of local markets during seasonal peaks.

With Eid preparations gathering pace, the ministry reassured consumers that agricultural products remain available in sufficient quantities, reflecting the effectiveness of coordination between producers, suppliers and market operators in meeting the needs of the public.

The continued inflow of fresh produce to central markets is expected to contribute to price stability and provide consumers with a wide variety of options during the Eid holiday, it added.
