Salalah – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), represented by the Directorate General of Roads and Land Transport in Dhofar Governorate, has started testing a new soil stabilisation technology for laying dirt roads in Thumrait.

Soil stabilisation in road construction involves the mixing of two or more different soils or mixing soil with polymeric material that can amend its geotechnical properties as per project requirements.

The ministry is using polymeric material for a dirt road in Thumrait to reduce the cost of road maintenance.

‘This is an experiment in applying a modern technology to strengthen and stabilise layers of a dirt road,’ the ministry stated.

It added that it is currently working on another similar experimental project in South Batinah.
