Muscat – Royal Oman Police (ROP) has issued an official statement categorically denying widely circulated reports concerning a criminal assault against a female student during a school excursion. These rumours, which gained significant traction across various social media platforms, claimed that a student had been targeted while on an educational trip. Following a thorough investigation into the matter, the authorities have confirmed that these allegations are entirely without merit and that no such incident has occurred within the Sultanate.
In their formal clarification, the ROP emphasised the importance of public responsibility when sharing information online. The spread of such false narratives can cause unnecessary panic and distress among parents, educators, and the wider community. The police have urged all citizens and residents to rely exclusively on official sources for news and to exercise caution before forwarding unverified messages.
Legal authorities have also reminded the public that the creation or dissemination of false news and rumours is a punishable offence under Omani law.
