Buraimi – Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources (MAFWR) has announced the commencement of the second expanded campaign of 2026 to combat the red palm weevil in Buraimi Governorate. This initiative is being organised by the Directorate General of Agriculture and Water Resources in Buraimi. The campaign represents a significant step in the Sultanate’s ongoing efforts to protect palm trees, which are a vital part of the nation’s heritage and agricultural economy.

The control operations are scheduled to take place from April 26 until May 25. During this period, specialised teams will carry out comprehensive field activities aimed at identifying and treating infested trees to prevent the further spread of the pest. The timing of the campaign is strategically chosen to align with the peak activity of the weevil, ensuring that the intervention is as effective as possible. This large-scale effort highlights the government’s commitment to food security and the preservation of natural resources through proactive pest management.
