Taqah records 200mm rainfall, wadis expected to overflow

Muscat – The current rough weather conditions are likely to continue over Oman with rains of varying intensity and wadis expected to overflow, Civil Aviation Authority has stated.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR), Taqah recorded 200mm rainfall over eight days from July 5 to 12.

Data collected from the rain monitoring stations of MAFWR from July 5 to 12 showed that Jaalan Bani Bu Ali received 173mm of rainfall, Jaalan Bani Bu Hasan 171mm, Rustaq 153mm, Salalah 142mm, Mirbat 127mm, Al Kamil Wa Al Wafi 120mm, Quriyat 101mm, Al Hamra 98mm, Sur 97mm, Sohar 92mm, Ibri 91mm, Bahla 82mm, Mudhaibi 81mm, 77mm in Al Awabi and Al Qabel, 70mm in Khabourah, 67mm in Dima Wa al Tayeen and Mahdah, 60mm in Bidiyah, 59mm in Rakhyout, 54mm in Samail, and 53mm in Saham.

According to the Directorate General of Meteorology, rough conditions are expected along the Arabian Sea coast with maximum wave height of 4m and moderate along the Sea of Oman coast and in Musandam with maximum wave height of 1.5m.

In its forecast for Wednesday, the Met Office stated, ‘Clear to partly cloudy skies are expected over all the governorates with chances of isolated rains. There are chances of convective clouds developing and isolated rain accompanied with thundershowers associated with downdraft winds and hail over the Al Hajar Mountains and adjoining areas towards afternoon, which may extend to the desert areas of Dhahirah and Al Wusta governorate.’

Meanwhile, the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority has announced that its teams are ready at tourist sites to provide advice, guidance and protection from dangers in various governorates.
