Muscat – A team from International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) will arrive in the sultanate on July 6 to help Oman implement Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology.
A statement issued by Oman Football Association said that besides implementing the new technology in football stadiums and assessing readiness of OFA for it, the FIFA team will also hold meetings with officials on July 6 and 7 on other important matters.
The use of VAR in football was included in the Laws of the Game in the 2018. Through the FIFA Quality Programme for VAR Technology, FIFA assesses the technological aspects of VAR systems.
To support competition organisers with the implementation of the technology, FIFA and International Football Association Board introduced the Implementation Assistance and Approval Programme. This allows the same standards to be applied when using VAR in a new competition, offering assistance in tackling the challenges related to the organisation and management of VAR implementation and overseeing training programmes for personnel in charge of VAR technology.
VAR will be used in Qatar 2022 – the second time in a World Cup.
