5 Feb 2020 By

To support children with cancer, the Ministry of Tourism, in cooperation with Oman Cancer Association and Sur Club for Cycling, will organise a bicycle race under the title ‘We are racing for them’ in South Sharqiyah on February 8.

Speaking to Muscat Daily Nasser Musallam al Araimi, head of Sur Club for Cycling, said, “We have planned a number of events to be held at Ras al Hadd beach in South Sharqiyah, from 7.30am. In addition to the main event there will be a bicycle race (800m) for children and a lecture to spread health awareness among members of the society. The organisers also expect to hold beach cleaning activities and recreational games such as tug of war and hurdle races, etc.”

Over 35 riders from Sur Club for Cycling will participate in the event.

Talking about the cycling event, Araimi said, “It aims to spread awareness on cancer, promote tourist sites in the area, and raise importance about sports in the society. “We will honour the contestants and distribute trophies and cash prizes to winners.”

Araimi said the club will continue to organise similar events to promote domestic tourism and create awareness on health and beach cleanliness.

“We call on citizens and residents to participate in such voluntary campaigns.”
