Muscat – Wedding tourism in Oman generated over RO6mn in 2024, according to Anwar bin Said al Balushi, Director of Events at Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT).
The ministry aims to establish Oman as a premier destination for destination weddings, offering tourists an opportunity to explore the sultanate’s exceptional tourist sites through tailored tours.
Balushi highlighted MHT’s efforts to attract major international companies specialising in wedding organisation to boost economic returns. India leads as the top source market for wedding tourism in Oman, with Indian guests frequently booking entire hotels for week-long stays, he informed.
Additionally, wedding tourism has created opportunities for Omani small and medium enterprises, generating significant income by supporting the organisation of these events. Each wedding typically attracts between 400 and 800 guests, contributing to the growth of various sectors, including hospitality and travel.
The country boasts a wide range of luxurious venues, including Al Bustan Palace, Shangri-La Barr al Jissah and Anantara al Jabal al Akhdar, as well as more affordable options like Sifawi Boutique Hotel. In collaboration with various stakeholders, MHT ensures that everything from venue decoration to visas and transportation is covered to meet the needs of international wedding clients.
Golf tourism has also contributed to the sector’s success, with Oman’s five golf courses drawing tourists who spend an average of RO9,000 per visit.
The growth in wedding tourism revenue aligns with Oman Vision 2040 to diversify the economy by promoting cultural and environmental tourism, further consolidating the sultanate’s status as a top wedding destination.
