Muscat – Jobseekers applying for the 1,222 government vacancies announced by the Ministry of Labour may select only one position, a senior official has said, urging candidates to carefully assess qualifications, experience and location requirements before registering.

Ammar bin Salem Al Saadi, Director General at the Ministry of Labour and official spokesperson for the labour affairs sector, said the vacancies were distributed across government entities and governorates according to staffing needs.

The positions cover candidates with university degrees, General Education Diplomas and lower qualifications, across administrative, financial, engineering, technical and health specialisations.

Applications will remain open until August 13 through the ministry’s website and designated SMS services.

“The system will not allow an applicant to compete for more than one job under this announcement,” Al Saadi said, advising candidates to update their details in the workforce register before applying.

Following the deadline, applications will be screened electronically to confirm whether candidates meet the advertised conditions. Eligible applicants will then be ranked according to the criteria stated in the announcement.

Depending on the position, recruitment may involve an electronic examination, an interview or both. 

Electronic test results will be issued immediately after completion, while candidates will receive information about examinations, interviews and outcomes through SMS and the ministry’s approved platform.

Private sector employees may apply if they meet the conditions. However, employees of government, military and security bodies, as well as government-owned companies, are not eligible. Those who resigned from a government entity or state-owned company since the beginning of 2026 are also excluded, a measure intended to reduce rapid job turnover and give first-time jobseekers greater access to opportunities.

Al Saadi said 100 positions had previously been announced separately for people with disabilities, with another 100 expected by the end of the year or early next year.

The latest announcement also includes positions under Omanisation replacement plans, training linked to employment and some part-time contracts. The part-time positions include opportunities for mosque imams under an initiative involving the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs.

Al Saadi said the ministry had achieved more than 50% of its annual employment target during the first half of 2026 and would continue issuing recruitment announcements for the government, private, military and security sectors.
