Muscat – A national team has begun reviewing Oman’s Child Law as part of efforts to update legislation and strengthen the protection of children’s rights.

The Child Law Review and Development Team, formed under the National Committee for Family Affairs, held its first meeting on Monday under the chairmanship of H E Rashid bin Ahmed Al Shamsi, Undersecretary for Family and Community Development Affairs in the Ministry of Social Development.

The meeting reviewed the timetable and stages of the process to ensure that the proposed amendments are completed according to plan.

The initiative aims to align child-related legislation with social and legal developments while strengthening Oman’s broader child protection framework.

Members discussed legal provisions on which observations had been raised. These articles will be studied and analysed before the team submits proposals and recommendations.

The meeting also stressed the need for coordination among relevant organisations to complete the review in line with recognised practices.

The proposed changes are expected to support the development of the legal framework governing children’s rights while ensuring consistency with national legislation and relevant international agreements.
