Muscat – The committee overseeing the Harat Al Raml Development and Investment Project in Ibri has reviewed progress on the initiative as preparations gather pace for work to commence.

The review took place during a meeting chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Busaidi, Wali of Ibri, and attended by committee members and Abdulrahman bin Humaid Al Yahyaei, Chairman of Dhahirah Company.

The committee assessed progress on the project’s technical and organisational aspects and reviewed the implementation plan and timetable for the next phases. Members stressed the need for continued coordination among the relevant authorities to ensure the project is delivered on schedule and achieves its development and investment objectives.

The meeting also outlined the responsibilities of partner organisations and reviewed mechanisms to strengthen cooperation during the implementation stage, with a focus on preparing the site for construction in line with the project’s approved vision.

One of the oldest neighbourhoods in the sultanate, Harat Al Raml dates back more than 300 years and sits atop the upper slopes of Jabal Al Raml. The site is known for its Arab-Islamic architectural character, which reflects the traditional simplicity of Omani life.

The site is noted for architectural features similar to those found in the historic quarter of Al Hamra in Dakhliyah, including intricately carved wooden ceilings that highlight the craftsmanship of Omani artisans.

The project aims to preserve the settlement’s historical and architectural identity while restoring and revitalising it through conservation and sustainable investment.

Once completed, the development is expected to enhance Harat Al Raml’s appeal as a cultural and tourism destination, support economic activity in Ibri and create new investment opportunities that contribute to the long-term development of Dhahirah.
