Muscat – Public Prosecution has issued a legal warning regarding the unauthorised publication of media content that infringes upon the private or family life of individuals. This critical reminder forms part of the ongoing “Missing Link” awareness campaign, which aims to educate the public on the legal boundaries governing digital communication and content sharing.
According to the official legal framework outlined under Article 330 of the Omani Penal Code, the act of publishing news, photographs, or comments that violate the private or family life of individuals is strictly prohibited. The legal authorities emphasised that even if the shared information or media is factually accurate, undertaking such actions without obtaining explicit consent from the concerned parties constitutes a serious criminal offence.
The law prescribes stringent penalties for violators, including a sentence of imprisonment for a duration of up to one year. By reinforcing these legal boundaries, the Supreme Judicial Council and the Public Prosecution seek to uphold the right to personal privacy, protect family structures, and deter malicious or careless digital practices across the local community.
