4 May 2026 Ministry of Information to document Oman’s Civilisational History By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Ministry of Information is set to produce a diverse range of documentaries, books, and programmes aimed at preserving Oman’s rich civilisational history. These initiatives serve as a vital cultural memory for the nation, linking a distinguished past with a glorious present by documenting historical landmarks and significant figures. Among the most notable recent achievements is the three-part documentary “House of Wonders,” which has secured top honours and excellence awards at various local and regional festivals.

In addition to traditional formats, the Ministry has embraced modern technology, as seen in the television programme “We Have an Impact”. This series utilises artificial intelligence to tell the stories of influential Omani figures who have made lasting contributions to human civilisation. Furthermore, the “Ayn” platform continues to host a significant collection of audiobooks and visual media that explore the treasures of Omani history.

A major upcoming project involves the production of a feature film detailing the historic 1840 voyage of the Omani ship “Sultana”. This vessel was the first Arab ship to reach the United States, representing a landmark moment in diplomatic and commercial relations during the reign of Sayyid Said bin Sultan. H E Mohammed bin Said Al Balushi, Undersecretary of Ministry of Information, stated that the film is part of a series of high-quality international productions intended to showcase Omani achievements to a global audience.

The production of the “Sultana” film follows extensive research, including field interviews and data collection across Oman and East Africa. Specialist writers have finalised the scripts and storyboards to ensure historical accuracy and dramatic quality. To achieve international standards, the project will involve globally recognised production companies and a diverse cast of Omani, Arab, and international actors. Filming is scheduled to take place in various locations, including Oman, East Africa, India, and the United States.
