Muscat: The Central Bank of Oman (CBO), in cooperation with FIFA, has announced the issuance of a silver commemorative coin celebrating the FIFA World Cup 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events.
The initiative reflects the CBO’s commitment to commemorating major international occasions and highlighting the significance of the tournament, which is being hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
Minted to the highest technical standards, the commemorative coin is made of 99.9 % pure silver and carries a face value of RO1. It measures 38.61mm in diameter and weighs 28.28 grams.
A total of 5,000 coins have been produced for the occasion. Of these, 1,000 coins will be made available for sale in the local market, while the remaining 4,000 coins will be marketed internationally through FIFA-licensed sales companies.
The coin is recognised as legal tender at its face value and is expected to attract interest from collectors and football enthusiasts alike. It will be available for purchase from CBO branches in Ruwi, Salalah and Suhar, as well as through the Oman Post sales outlet at the Opera Galleria, starting from June 30, 2026.
The commemorative coin will be offered at a minimum price of RO73, although the final selling price may vary in line with fluctuations in international silver prices.
In addition to local sales, the coin will also be distributed in global markets through authorised international dealers licensed by FIFA, extending the reach of this special Omani issue to collectors around the world.
