3 May 2026 CPA warns over Anker portable chargers due to overheating risk By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has issued a formal warning to the public regarding several models of portable chargers manufactured by the Anker brand. This safety notice follows reports that these specific devices do not comply with approved standard specifications and mandatory safety requirements. The Authority highlighted that the use of these products could lead to potential safety risks for consumers.

The warning specifically identifies five charger models which are A1647, A1652, A1257, A1681, and A1689. Information received through the Gulf Aajel rapid alert system suggested that these devices may suffer from technical malfunctions or severe overheating during operation, potentially endangering the user. Following this alert, enforcement officers conducted field inspections across the Sultanate; however, no authorised local distributor was found for these particular models.

Authorities believe these products likely entered the Omani market through unofficial channels, including online shopping platforms or individual imports from neighbouring countries. Consequently, the Consumer Protection Authority has urged all residents to stop using the affected chargers immediately.
