Muscat – Muscat Municipality has announced the temporary closure of two public recreational facilities as part of projects aimed at upgrading parks and improving their amenities.

The municipality said the Wadi Kabir Children’s Playground will be temporarily closed to facilitate a rehabilitation project covering the park and its facilities.

The project is intended to improve the site and provide visitors an upgraded recreational environment. The municipality said it looks forward to welcoming the public back once the works are completed, with the facility returning in a new look.

In a separate announcement, Muscat Municipality said Al Khairan Park has also been temporarily closed to allow rehabilitation and development works to begin.

The project will focus on upgrading the park’s facilities and improving the overall experience for visitors. The municipality said the park will resume operations and welcome visitors again soon following completion of the development works.

Meanwhile, as part of its efforts to promote environmental sustainability and maintain the cleanliness of Muscat’s coastline, the municipality has introduced 12 beach-cleaning bikes.

The bikes were launched by the municipality’s Transport Department in coordination with the Directorate General of Health Affairs.

The initiative is designed to support cleaning teams working along the beaches and facilitate cleaning and monitoring operations.

According to the municipality, the new equipment will help improve the efficiency of field teams and make beach-cleaning operations more effective.

The initiative also forms part of broader efforts to preserve the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of Muscat’s beaches, while supporting sustainable environmental practices across the governorate.

The municipality’s latest projects reflect its continued focus on upgrading public spaces, enhancing recreational facilities and strengthening environmental services for residents and visitors.

The rehabilitation of the two parks, along with the deployment of specialised beach-cleaning equipment, is expected to contribute to improved public amenities and cleaner, more attractive community spaces across Muscat.
