Salalah – Dhofar Municipality has launched an initiative to support the wages of Omanis hired for temporary jobs during the governorate’s khareef, sarb and winter seasons, in a move aimed at creating more seasonal employment opportunities for nationals.

The initiative, announced in coordination with the Directorate General of Labour in Dhofar, will provide support to eligible establishments, businesses and employers recruiting Omanis on a temporary basis.

The municipality said the programme is intended to promote seasonal job opportunities and strengthen the participation of national talent in economic activities that see higher demand during Dhofar’s tourism seasons.

Five categories of employers have been identified for the initiative. These include Omani establishments holding licences issued by the municipality that recruit nationals for temporary positions, as well as local companies awarded government contracts and tenders linked to seasonal activities and employing temporary staff during the season.

Omani organisers of festivals and seasonal events who recruit temporary workers during tourism periods will also be eligible.

Additionally, the scheme covers Omani owners of hotels and residential buildings for tourists who temporarily employ nationals in reception positions.

Omanis organising seasonal activities of a voluntary nature and hiring nationals temporarily are also among the eligible categories.

The wage-support initiative extends beyond khareef to the sarb and winter seasons, potentially allowing businesses to recruit Omanis during different periods of increased activity through the year.

Dhofar Municipality has invited establishments that meet the eligibility requirements and wish to benefit from the programme to register through its electronic portal.
