Muscat – Oman is expected to experience one of the hottest periods of the 2026 summer on Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures forecast to range between the mid and upper 40s, reaching close to 50°C in some coastal areas along the Sea of Oman and desert regions.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre, temperatures will begin rising gradually from Sunday evening before peaking over the following two days. The authority said the hot weather will affect much of the northern part of the sultanate, particularly low-lying coastal and inland desert areas.

The warning comes as thousands of residents prepare to travel during the extended school holiday, with traffic expected to increase on major highways leading to tourist destinations, especially Dhofar. Authorities have urged the public to take extra precautions while travelling and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak daytime hours.

Health experts advise residents to remain hydrated, wear light-coloured clothing and avoid strenuous outdoor activities between late morning and late afternoon. Motorists are also encouraged to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before undertaking long journeys, particularly with regard to tyre pressure, engine cooling systems and air conditioning.

The CAA said it will continue to monitor weather conditions and issue updates if necessary, urging the public to follow official forecasts and safety advisories over the next couple of days.
