Salalah – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has invited licensed transport companies to submit proposals to operate app-based land transport services at Salalah Airport, as part of efforts to enhance passenger mobility and expand digital transport solutions.
The initiative aims to modernise airport ground transportation, improve service quality and provide passengers safe and reliable travel options between the airport and destinations across Dhofar.
Under the programme, licensed operators can apply for permits to provide smart transport services that connect passengers with taxis through mobile applications. MTCIT said the move is intended to encourage competition, foster innovation and accelerate the adoption of digital technologies in the transport sector.
The platform will enable travellers to book taxis through approved applications, track vehicles in real time, view fares before travel and make cashless payments, improving both convenience and operational efficiency.
The initiative comes as Salalah Airport prepares for increased passenger volumes during the annual khareef season, when thousands of visitors from within Oman and overseas travel to Dhofar to experience the monsoons.
Salalah Airport has already expanded its app-based transport options, including the introduction of a dedicated women-only Yango (OTaxi) service for female passengers, reflecting growing demand for digital mobility services.
Applications can be submitted by email to [email protected] no later than July 20, 2026.
MTCIT expects the initiative to improve onward connectivity for arriving passengers while creating new opportunities for private sector participation in digital transport services and consolidating Salalah Airport’s role as a gateway to Dhofar, particularly during khareef.
