Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has announced that the rehabilitation project for Sultan Thuwaini bin Said Road, linking Bidbid and Nizwa, has reached 89.5% completion, ahead of schedule.

Valued at more than RO10mn, the project covers the section between the eastern junction and Farf junction in Dakhliyah.

MTCIT said the project aims to repair the road and its associated facilities, including deteriorated pavement sections, strengthen safety features and improve the road’s operational performance to accommodate increasing traffic volumes.

The repair works incorporate advanced engineering solutions, most notably the use of geogrid technology, which reinforces pavement layers, enhances structural stability and extends the service life of the road. The ministry noted that the technology is being implemented in line with internationally recognised engineering standards to ensure long-term durability and reduce future maintenance needs.

Upon completion, the upgraded road is expected to enhance connectivity between the wilayats of Dakhliyah and neighbouring governorates, improve traffic flow and provide a safer and more comfortable journey for motorists.

MTCIT added that the project will contribute to improving the efficiency of the national transport network while supporting economic and social development by facilitating the movement of people and goods.

The Bidbid–Nizwa road is one of the sultanate’s strategic transport corridors, linking the capital region with Dakhliyah and serving thousands of commuters and freight vehicles daily.
