Muscat – One of the most iconic symbols of Omani culture and hospitality, Al Bustan Palace, A Ritz-Carlton Hotel is closing for two years, Omran Group announced on Monday.
The hotel will continue welcoming guests till June 30, 2026, with renovation works set to commence on July 1. ‘The project is expected to be completed over a period of up to two years,’ Omran stated. ‘This marks the commencement of a comprehensive renovation and redevelopment project for the hotel, a significant milestone in enhancing the quality and competitiveness of Oman’s tourism infrastructure and supporting the continued growth of Oman’s tourism sector.’
Al Bustan Palace opened its doors in 1985, originally built for the Gulf Cooperation Council Summit in Muscat that year. Having hosted several Arab League meetings and visiting heads of state since, Al Bustan Palace has become an iconic property and was bestowed the title ‘Jewel of the Sultanate’.
According to Omran, the redevelopment will focus on elevating the guest experience through refurbishment of guest rooms and suites, food and beverage venues, spa and wellness amenities and public spaces, alongside upgrades to the hotel’s infrastructure, technology and operational systems. ‘These enhancements will further improve operational efficiency and service excellence in line with the best international practices and standards within the hospitality sector.’
Renowned for its distinctive location overlooking the Sea of Oman and its architecture inspired by Omani heritage, the hotel has played an important role in the development of the sultanate’s tourism sector and remains one of Oman’s most prominent hospitality and tourism landmarks.
The renovation is part of Omran Group’s broader strategy to preserve the quality of its tourism assets and enhance their long-term operational sustainability, ensuring they remain aligned with the latest global hospitality trends. ‘Upon completion, Al Bustan Palace will reopen with a renewed identity that honours its rich legacy while embracing the requirements of the future, further strengthening its position as one of the region’s most prominent hospitality destinations.’
