Muscat – The Oman national tent pegging team has qualified for the Tent Pegging World Cup after finishing second in the qualifying competition hosted by the sultanate.

The qualifying championship, organised by Oman Equestrian Federation at the Royal Oman Police Mounted Unit arena, brought together teams from the United States, Qatar, Iran, Pakistan and Uzbekistan, besides Oman. The six teams competed for two qualification places in the World Cup, scheduled to be held in Jordan in November.

The concluding ceremony was held under the patronage of H E Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth.

On the first day, Iran’s Salman Qashlaqi won the individual competition, while Pakistan’s Wajahat Ullah finished second and Qatar’s Ibrahim Al Hammadi third.

In the team competition, Pakistan took first place, followed by Qatar in second and Iran in third.

On the second day, Pakistan dominated the individual competition, with Wajahat Ullah taking first place, followed by M Sagheer in second and Nasir Abbas in third. Pakistan also won the team competition, with Iran second and Oman third.

In the final day’s individual competition, Pakistan again claimed the top three positions. Tasawar Abbas finished first, followed by M Sagheer in second and Nasir Abbas in third.

Pakistan topped the team competition on the final day, while Oman finished second and Qatar third.

With their second-place finish, Oman secured qualification for the World Cup alongside Pakistan. Qatar, which finished third, advanced to the continental play-off, where it will compete against other teams for an opportunity to secure a place in the World Cup.
