3 Jun 2026 MoCIIP warns firms influencers against unauthorised charity ads By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) has issued a formal warning to firms and social media influencers regarding the advertisement of charitable activities. The directive specifically states that companies and establishments licensed for activities such as water well drilling, construction, building maintenance, and digital commercial brokerage are strictly prohibited from promoting, advertising, or soliciting funds for any charitable or humanitarian projects without obtaining the necessary official permits and approvals.

This regulation encompasses the collection of monetary donations or in-kind contributions for projects, including water well drilling initiatives, regardless of whether these activities are conducted within or outside the Sultanate. Furthermore, the Ministry has urged influencers and advertisers on social media platforms to verify that any company or institution they promote possesses valid licenses and permits for such humanitarian or charitable work. Advertisers are advised to ensure that entities are explicitly authorised for these specific activities before engaging in any promotional campaigns to avoid legal non-compliance.
