Al Hamra – The Governorate of Dakhliyah has invited bids from investors and developers for the construction, development and operation of an Adventure Centre at the Jabal Shams Grand Canyon Front project in Wilayat of Al Hamra, in a move aimed at strengthening the governorate’s position as a leading destination for adventure and mountain tourism.
The tourism and leisure investment project will be developed on a 10,012sqm site overlooking the Jabal Shams canyon, widely recognised as the Grand Canyon of Arabia, and is expected to become a key attraction within the wider Jabal Shams development.
Designed as an integrated adventure tourism hub, the project will offer a range of outdoor and recreational activities catering to visitors and mountain sports enthusiasts. Planned facilities are expected to include rock-climbing areas, hiking and trekking trails, mountain biking routes, and dedicated spaces for adventure events and activities that take advantage of the area’s rugged terrain and spectacular panoramic views.
According to the governorate, the investment opportunity carries a concession period of 25 years. The successful bidder will be granted two years and six months to complete project planning, construction and development before commencing operations.
Officials said the project forms part of wider efforts to enhance tourism infrastructure in Dakhliyah and diversify economic activity in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. The development is expected to complement existing tourism projects in the area while providing high-quality recreational and hospitality services.
The governorate noted that the project aims to create a distinctive tourism experience centred on Jabal Shams, Oman’s highest mountain peak and one of the country’s most visited natural attractions. Beyond boosting visitor numbers, the development is expected to generate economic value through support for small and medium enterprises, job creation and increased opportunities for partnerships with local businesses.
Environmental sustainability, public safety and adherence to local architectural identity will be key requirements for the project, ensuring that development is carried out responsibly while preserving the mountain’s natural and cultural character.
