31 May 2026 Oman joins International Commission on Large Dams

Muscat – Represented by the Omani Committee on Large Dams under the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Oman officially joined the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) during the 94th Annual Meeting of the commission, held in Mexico.

The annual gathering brought together experts and specialists in dam engineering, water resources management and related fields from around the world. During the meeting, Oman’s membership in ICOLD was formally recognised, marking a milestone in the sultanate’s growing engagement with international organisations dedicated to water resources management and dam development.

The recognition underscores Oman’s advancing capabilities in dam engineering and water resources management, while highlighting its commitment to enhancing safety standards, sustainability and the adoption of best international practices.

Officials said Oman’s membership in ICOLD will provide an important platform for benefiting from global expertise, fostering innovation and strengthening technical cooperation. It is also expected to enhance the participation of Omani professionals in international conferences, technical committees and specialised forums related to dams and water infrastructure.

The move is anticipated to support Oman’s efforts to further develop its water infrastructure, improve the efficiency of water resource management and advance national strategies aimed at achieving sustainable development and strengthening water security.
