Manchester United has revealed its ambition to host the final of the 2035 FIFA Women’s World Cup at its planned 100,000-capacity stadium, poised to become the largest in the UK.
The £2bn stadium project, announced in March, aims to be completed within 5–6 years near the current Old Trafford site. Club co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is spearheading the regeneration effort, with Lord Sebastian Coe recently named Chair-Designate of the Mayoral Development Corporation overseeing the Old Trafford redevelopment.
While the timeline is ambitious and subject to potential delays, United sources remain confident that the stadium will be ready well ahead of 2035. The UK—comprising all four home nations—is currently the sole bidder for the tournament, with the Football Association expected to submit its proposal to FIFA by year’s end.
United CEO Omar Berrada praised Lord Coe’s leadership, noting his legacy in overseeing the 2012 London Olympics and highlighting the positive momentum toward making the “new Old Trafford” a global football landmark.
