Muscat – The wilayat of Dima wa al Taien in North Sharqiyah recorded the highest rainfall in Oman over a five-day period, according to Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR).
From July 2 to 6, weather stations of MAFWR registered 81mm of rainfall in Dima wa al Taien, followed by 56mm in Nakhal, 41mm in Al Hamra, 32mm in Samail, 30mm in Rustaq, 28mm in Jabal Akhdar and 22mm in Yanqul.
Rain was recorded in several other wilayats, including 18mm in Ibra, 16mm in Izki, 15mm in Ibri, 14mm in Mudhaibi, 12mm in Al Awabi, 11mm in Rakhyout and 10mm in Buraimi. The wilayats of Al Qabil and Mirbat each recorded 7mm.
Moderate to heavy rains on Sunday, resulting in several wadis overflowing in many parts of the sultanate.
In South Batinah, rain in a number of villages – including Wadi al Sahtan and Wadi Bani Awf in Rustaq, Wadi Bani Kharus in Al Awabi and Wadi Mistal in Nakhal – resulted in wadis and mountain streams flowing.
In North Sharqiyah, besides Dima wa al Taien, the wilayats of Ibra and Mudhaibi recorded rain of varying intensity, accompanied by active winds and hail in some areas. In Ibra, heavy rain was concentrated in the northern villages along the eastern Hajar mountain range. Mudhaibi witnessed rain in its central and southern parts, also accompanied by strong winds and hail, leading to overflowing wadis.
In Dima wa al Taien along the eastern Hajar, rain of varying intensity was reported in villages such as Mas, Al Sibil, Naqsi and parts of Mahlah, besides the surrounding areas of Dima, which led to overflowing wadis across the wilayat.
