RM makes AMAs history as solo star, upholding BTS’s global legacy

28 May 2025

RM, the leader of world-renowned K-pop group BTS, has etched his name in music history once again — this time as a solo artist — by winning Favourite K-pop Artist at the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs).

Currently serving in the South Korean military, Kim Namjoon, known to millions as RM, became the first artist to win this prestigious category both as a solo performer and as part of BTS, cementing not only his personal legacy but also reinforcing the enduring global influence of the band.

Despite his absence from the awards ceremony due to military duties, RM took to Instagram Stories to thank fans. Reposting BTS’s official announcement, he wrote: “Thank you for your love and support, #BTSARMY 💜.”
In another post, he sparked excitement by hinting at his return, writing: “It will be soon, seriously, soon,” in response to an article about BTS’s upcoming reunification.

RM’s victory was bolstered by the success of his second solo album, Right Place, Wrong Person, released in May 2024. The record earned both critical acclaim and commercial success — topping Billboard’s Top Rap Albums Chart, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, and securing six spots in the Top 10 Rap Digital Song Sales.

His artistic evolution was also documented in ‘RM: Right People, Wrong Place’, a film released worldwide in December 2024 after its premiere at the 29th Busan International Film Festival.

RM’s solo success adds to BTS’s phenomenal legacy — a group that has not only reshaped the global music scene but also broken barriers for Asian artists worldwide. With all members expected to reunite in late 2025 following the completion of military service by RM, V, Suga, Jimin, and Jungkook, fans are eagerly awaiting BTS’s full-fledged return.

Jin and J-Hope, the first to complete service in 2023, are already back in the public eye, setting the stage for what promises to be a monumental comeback for the world’s most influential pop act.
